Europe will be Young, Fresh and Green

ec2009

Almost 100 young greens from all over Europe participated in the General Assembly of the Federation of Young European Greens (FYEG) which was held in Maastricht from the 23th to the 26th of April. In the General Assembly, Young Greens elected a new Executive Committee for the FYEG and enlarged their organisation with six full Member Organisations.

Eline van Nistelrooij (The Netherlands) and Gordan Isabegovic (Bosnia and Herzegovina) were elected as the new Spokespersons. Former Treasurer Battal Erdogan was re-elected for a second term, as well as former Fundraiser Monia Franceschini (Italy) was re-elected for a second term for a position in the Executive Committee of the FYEG. Marta Mendec (Poland), Catrinel Mocanu (Romania) and Ivan Ninenko (Russia) were elected for a first term in the Executive Committee of the FYEG. Our Secretary General, Bruno Nicostrate, will continue his second year of mandate till the next GA in 2010.

The FYEG would furthermore like to welcome their new Full Member Organisations from Albania, Georgia, Greece, Slovakia, South Tyrol and Armenia, and their new Candidate Member Organisations from Azerbaijan, Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina and are looking forward to working closely with each of these Young Green Organisations in a Federation that does not restrict itself to the European Union member states.

With these new Member Organisations on board the General Assembly did not only choose the new Executive Committee, but also did it successfully adopted an official position on abortion and the Roma minority in Europe, as well as on regionalism and drugs. The latter two will be further developed during the upcoming year.

The new Executive Committee would like to thank the Dutch Young Greens for their help in organising the General Assembly, the former Executive Committee members for their great work and all the participants for their commitment to FYEG.
