Starting off! At the COMEM of the European Youth Forum

15 May

Hi all!

We are now three weeks in our mandate and on behalf of the entire Executive Committee I would like to take the opportunity on this blog to again thank you very much for putting your trust in us and giving us the possibility to work for a full year with the whole of our hearts and lots of positive energy for the Federation of the Young European Greens!

Personally I have used this time to read a lot of documents and get more and more acquainted with the organisation and its history and past activities.

On Friday the 8th and Saturday the 9th of May was the first event at which I was physically representing the FYEG as the new female spokesperson. This was at the Council of Members (COMEM) of the European Youth Forum that was held in Brussels.

The COMEM consists out of two pillars: the national youth councils and the international non governmental youth organisations. This makes the COMEM a very diverse gathering, since the scouts are represented, the medical students are represented, as well as the European Youth Press and the farmers, just to give some examples.

During the COMEM we elected a new Secretary General: Guiseppe Porcaro. The FYEG is very content with this decision of the COMEM, and want to congratulate Guiseppe with this wonderful position and are looking forward to cooperating fruitfully with him!

We also had a Working Group on climate change in which we also briefly touched upon the COP15 at which FYEG will certainly be present.
Furthermore, all the party political youth organisations joined forces and stated a commitment to be more involved in the entire policy making process of the European Youth Forum and asked the board to make more use of our potential and of what we have to offer. We are happy to say that we both, the party political youth organisations and the board of the European Youth Forum, agreed upon this.

So in conclusion I can say that it was a short but very fruitful meeting during which I also got to know many other young representatives and I am looking forward to the next COMEM on the 13th and 14th of November this year and other activities in the future to which FYEG can contribute and profit from!

Green greetings,

Eline
